farenheit 451 essay

Fahrenheit 451 is set in a dystopian future, you can tell this by the way technology controls people or how they are all made to be exactly the same, a plain reality, a future without knowledge of the past and evidence of it is illegal this is said by captain beatty before raiding his house for books. He says to montag “We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the constitution says, but everyone made equal . . . A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it. Take the shot from the weapon. Breach man’s mind”. Society breaking the public’s minds so that they all are the same no one better than anyone and no one worse, there is no individuality left in this time.

Fahrenheit 451 is a fictional book produced by ray bradbury, he created this piece of writing predicting what the future could be like and how the people would live in it, we see the world through montag’s prospective. montag is a firefighter but in this future firefighters don’t set the fires out, they light them. its all they’ve been taught. thats how we begin the book, fire, looking through montag’s eyes as he describes what he sees. later on in the book we meet a young girl named clarisse, she changed how montag looked at the world we know this by the way montag acts around her. the day montag met clarisse they went for a walk in the rain, we learn more about her and her ideas, this is very unusual as know one creates any ideas for themselves anymore. when montag hurries her along to where she need to be he finds himself tilting his head back and opening his mouth so that he could taste the rain. this shows that montag has had an influence from this girl, opening his eyes to see what the world really is. this brings me to my next point, how our world today is becoming a dystopia and how it relates to the book.

In the fictional novel Fahrenheit 451 it describes virtual realities and how people are so obsessed with the new age of technology, they are so distracted that they dont even realise that they are on the brink of another world war. i believe that this relates to the world we live in today as there has been a lot of conflict between countries such as north korea, russia and america. most recent events being that donald trump has pulled out of the Paris accords. this has recently occured ever since donald trump has been elected president of the united states of america. we haven’t really cared about such things because we are to connected to our devices that we are blind to see what’s happening outside the screens which is the brink of world war 3. This is what Ray Bradbury believes in, he believes that technology is a advantage to our society but its also a disadvantage by how people can be so hooked they don’t realise what’s really going on. as a quote reads in the book, “water poured down the spout and out the bottom telling the public its wine when its not.” This relates to how the firemen reassured the public that they were helping when they were doing more harm, feeding them what they want to hear so they can go back into their virtual realities and pretend like nothing is going on. In a way Ray Bradbury was warning us with this book as he writes about how the world is bland and how the world has turned into a dystopia. If the world continues to manufacture technology to for fill our wants and not our needs we will become what this book has predicted.

In conclusion i believe if technology is advancing like it has been the last decade we will be an advanced community but will be merging with the books ideas so to speak, the four walls, we are a step away with that by having virtual reality. soon man and woman will become linked by the imagination they have, none.  we can stop this from happening by pulling away from our screens and creating our own ideas for society to grow, not get stuck in the same place it’s been for the past decade and adding upgrades to what we already have.
